Acupuncture Anxiety Treatment

by Vlasta Kuster

Both acupuncture anxiety treatment and EFT anxiety treatment belong to so-called energy therapies.

With its record of use dating back 5000 years, acupuncture is probably the oldest medical treatment in the world. It’s one of the branches of traditional Chinese medicine, whose foundational principle is that everything in the universe, including human beings, is made of energy (chi).

This life force courses through the human body along a network of invisible canals known as meridians, of which there are twelve leading through the arms, legs, torso and head.

To these are attached secondary canals that distribute energy throughout the body.

So long as the energy is circulating, the person is healthy.

However, even the slightest disturbance in the flow of any of the meridians can have an impact.

In acupuncture, the doctor inserts thin needless into the skin at specific points, typically along the ulna, arms, lower legs and feet, in order to release, stimulate or inhibit the energy flow.

During acupuncture anxiety treatment a so-called HeGu acupuncture point is stimulated

Acupuncture needles are long and very thin and the actual insertion point is usually quite some distance from the area being treated.

They are inserted to a depth of 6-7.5 mm, depending on constitution, the part of the body, and whether the disturbance impacts the body internally or externally.

The average treatment session lasts 20 minutes, after which the needles are removed.

The precise location of the insertion depends on the location of the disturbance and the particular way in which we wish to influence the energy.

Treatment for anxiety with acupuncture stimulates a so-called point LI-4, also called Hegu, the point on the back of the hand between the thumb and forefinger.

Acupuncture anxiety treatment stimulates a so-called point LI-4, also called Hegu, the point on the back of the hand between the thumb and forefinger.

Acupuncture is used to treat many conditions and has can be effective from the very first appearance of

  • cold or flu symptoms,
  • back pain,
  • toothache,
  • migraine,

  • painful menstruation and rheumatism, as well as in providing
  • relief from indigestion,
  • breathing difficulties,
  • blood circulation problems,

  • sexual and hormonal imbalances,

  • allergies,
  • stress,
  • anxiety,
  • dizziness and
  • sleep disorders.

Although in the West the use of acupuncture to relieve stress, anxiety and depression is little-taught or recognized, acupuncturists know very well that their specialty is especially applicable to such problems.

Depression is often associated with a bottleneck in liver chi resulting from repressed emotions, especially anger.

This energy blockage can lead to poor circulation of bodily fluids and a buildup of mucous. This causes mental fogginess, apathy, and emotional negativity.

The basic task of the acupuncturist is to move the stagnant chi from the liver and flush out the mucous using selected insertion points along the canals of the liver, gall bladder, heart, stomach and spleen.

How much does anxiety treatment with acupuncture actually help ?

Though more studies still need to be done on efficiency anxiety treatment with acupuncture....

...according to dr. David Servan-Schreiber author of Healing Without Freud or Prozac, Harvard study under the guidance of dr. Kathleen Hui indicated that...

...acupuncture anxiety treatment with the stimulation of the point on the back of the hand between the thumb and forefinger can block the emotional centers of the brain that are responsible for experiencing pain and anxiety.

Electric acupuncture anxiety treatment could also reduce the anxiety of patients according to study The Effectiveness of Electrical Acupuncture Stimulation in Reducing Levels of Self-reported Anxiety of Lung Cancer Patients during Palliative Care: A Pilot Study
